First week roadtripping down, two more weeks and a lot of miles to go. Take a look at our second week.
Lake Moogerah – Brisbane
We stayed in Brisbane for 2 nights and unfortunately this was the first city in Australia that we did not like. It was extremely hot outside so maybe that had something to do with it, but in general we found it quite boring. In the end I kept on thinking that maybe we missed something… We did however do our first ever Parkrun there and we loved that. A Parkrun is a free 5k run that is organised in different cities every saturday. You can sign up online for free and than show up at any run with your personal card with a barcode. The concept is simply to get out there and get some exercise in. There are people who really race but also people that are walking. Don’t be surprised if someone will pass you running with a stroller. Most demoralising thing EVER…:)
Brisbane – Landsborough
Even before I knew we were going to Australia, I’ve had the Australia Zoo on my list. This is the zoo of the crocodile hunter, the late Steve Irwin. I always loved watching him on tv when I grew up and I was really curious about the zoo. They didn’t dissapoint. We loved it. Even Kelvin, who absolutely went there because I wanted to go, went home a fan. It is so different from any zoo I ever visited around the world. You can just feel the love for animals and a lot of animals hop around you as you go along. The vibe is unlike everything I have ever been. We really recommend going to the Wildlife Warriors show. We ended up staying at a campsite nearby the zoo, but if we could have done it again we would have skipped that and straight go to the next destination: Noosa.
Landsborough – Noosa
Noosa is the home base of the triathlon sport and so Kelvin was really excited to go there and get some training in. It is a really pretty beach town that has the rich and famous touch without the snobby people. For us it had everything; great beach, nice stores, bars and restaurants and a gorgeous national park where you can spot koalas. Yep. We definitely wished we could have stayed longer. Amazing burgers at Betty’s burgers. Just saying.
Noosa – Hervey Bay (Fraser Island)
We went to Hervey Bay for 2 nights to take a daytrip to Fraser Island from there, but being in Hervey Bay was not a punishment at all. We had a gorgeous campsite right at the beach, Scarness beachfront caravan park. Not a lot beats that.
Fraser Island was really beautiful. We went on an organized day tour and I really liked it. What a crazy mix of nature comes together at this island! Rainforest, sand dunes, swamps, cristal clear water. Yep. Liked it. Kelvin thought it was beautiful too but did have some mixed feelings about how touristy is was. Most of the tours have the same route so you keep on bumping into al the other tour busses which does take a bit of the magic away.
Hervey Bay (Fraser Island) – Yeppoon
With still quite some miles to go to Cairns we had a big driving day and stopped for the night in Yeppoon. Yeppoon was ok. Again a nice beach and a campingsite at the beach and that never gets old. Being the only tourists there is also never getting old. 🙂
End of week 2 of our roadtrip from Sydney to Cairns. Read here about our first week.
