Yes. You’ve read it right. We arrived on our second destination: Thailand.
Even though we are completely jet lagged and still greet people with ‘hola’, my hair confirms we have arrived in Thailand. Crazy things happening on the top of my head. As it is still rain season we got quite a lot of rain on our first days. And not the annoying kind we know in the Netherlands. Oh no no no. It compares somewhat to a shower. We were lucky enough to also get some sunny hours to go outside and explore.
We are in Thanyapura, a sport and wellness resort close to Phuket and an absolute wet dream for various types of athletes. I thought I have seen it all at the Ironmans I visited in the last few years. But no. Whereas triathletes are a rare breed in the Netherlands here you are rare if you are not one or at least train just as hard as one. I have never seen so many trained bodies together in one resort. No body hair. Veins. The whole nine yards. No mani-pedi-laying-around-the-pool-types here. You get up, get your gym gear on and workout a couple of times a day. And I do have to admit they make it very easy and a lot of fun to do so. Every class I can possibly imagine is available. Bootcamps, spinning, high intensity workouts, boxing, core for hours and hours, yoga, meditation and even dance classes. So while Kelvin is doing his triathlon bootcamp, I am exploring all the classes.
And besides all the training they also make it easy to eat healthy. Yep. Juices, overnight oats, stuff with chiaseeds in there, everything protein. Yes, very healthy. Also outsides while exploring Thailand the food has been awesome. We already went to 3 markets and after a deep breath in and out we decided to dig into the food. It all smelled so delicious, we just had to put our ‘what if we get sick – thoughts’ aside. And so far it has not been disappointing. We love the food. Chicken and rice for days.
And we really like the markets because they actually seem authentic which can be a rare thing in Phuket between all the disco tuk tuks (guilty pleasure), soaps in very inappropriate shapes (I hope you catch my drift) and indecent proposals with ping pong balls…We are from Amsterdam, but Patong really even shocked us. They might even see that as a compliment…Fortunately we are located outside of Phuket in a peaceful environment.
So besides my hair we are having an awesome time. Lots of impressions and it is stunning here! Eating and working out all day, baby (what’s new?)! And beaches and sun. Just how we like it.
