In case you haven’t noticed or simply chose to ignore; We are in Australia! AUSTRALIA! It has always been a huge dream of mine to come here and I am sorry to disappoint some of you haters out there; It is magical. For the people who still have Australia coming up and are looking for some pointers and for all the people who just like to read what we are doing, we have decided to put it in a blog. Some blogs actually. Again sorry for all the haters; We are in Australia for 6 weeks. 😉
Sydney
So we started our Australia adventure in Sydney. A must do on our list, but lots of people told us in advance not to stay too long. It would not be that interesting. We decided to stay 4 nights and we did not regret it at all. We loved Sydney. Even with a jet lag of epic proportions we had a great time and we could totally imagine ourselves living there. Our favorites in Sydney:
❤︎ Go swimming
Kelvin already raved about it, but even a non triathlete whatever person like myself loved this. You don’t have to do laps like a crazy person (Kelvin) but can also just swim with your sunglasses on and enjoy the view for just a few dollars. Definitely visit Icebergs at Bondi Beach and the North Sydney Pool. Gorgeous and a lot of Speedo action to look at. 🙂
❤︎ Surry Hills
We had a hotel in Surry Hills, a cool hip Sydney neighborhood, and this was a really good choice. Us being from Amsterdam and extremely hipster (Kelvin is working on his beard), we fitted right in. 😉 Lots of cute shops, bars and restaurants and also lots of health stuff. You know you are in a trendy neighborhood when you get green juices and chia in everything. Nice to stroll around and there are not as much tourists as in the center so you actually get to experience Sydney in an authentic, yet trendy as hell, way.
❤︎ Opera House
Can I get a duh?! Yes of course you should go there! It is a really impressive and gorgeous building. We decided to spend some money and go to the opera. We saw La Boheme there and me being a little theatre geek, loved every minute of it. One to stripe of the bucket list.
❤︎ Manly Beach
You can catch an ferry to Manly Beach and it is definitely a must do. We had one of the best fish and chips ever right there on the boulevard and one can never go wrong with that Australian beachy, surfy vibe.
❤︎ Bondi Beach
Yes. Another duh. But don’t miss it. Everybody is tanned. And athletic. And occasionally wears Speedo’s. Love that. And there is a really gorgeous coastal walk you can do.
And to get everywhere we totally recommend the opal card. It is exactly like our Dutch ‘ov-chipkaart’, but it actually works. And everything is on time. You can catch the bus, train and even the ferry with it. ‘Too easy’ as the Australians would say.
Another thing we would absolutely recommend anybody going to Australia for longer than a week is getting a prepaid phone card. It is about 40 dollars and it will make your life on the road so much easier. Sure in Sydney there is wifi. Try again when you are in your motorhome in the middle of nowhere. Prepaid card. Little life safer.
After enjoying ourselves in Sydney we picked up our motorhome and started driving up to Cairns. You will read all about our road trip in our next blogs.
Have a good one, mate!
