Ironman 70.3 Ecuador. It was a race that had been in my mind for such a long time. After putting in a hard block of training in Boulder I had high expectations for this race. I really wanted to go podium and get a slot for the world championships in South Africa in 2018. I was feeling very good coming into the race and was ready to enjoy myself on the course in what is by far the ‘craziest’ race I’m doing this year. Ecuador is a beautiful country and the people are super nice. In Manta, where the race is held, the Ironman really is the event of the year and tens of thousands of people were expected around the course on race day.
Race report Ironman 70.3 Durban
So here it is. Another delayed race report. It’s funny how this thing starts to become common, but I guess it’s a good sign showing how awesome life on the road is. Every day the thought crosses my mind that I have to write a race report, but I simply seem to forget it just as fast because of the cool places we are and the (training) possibilities that these places offer.
Anyway, Ironman 70.3 Durban was a crazy race. It might have been the single race that I was looking forward to the least so far. I didn’t feel super strong and I didn’t really feel like racing either. My friend Manuel said he seemed to notice this already when I wasn’t bragging the day before the race ;-). But no matter how not fit and not race ready I felt, the outcome was quite the opposite.
Race report Ironman 70.3 Barcelona
Ever since my second place (AG) in Ironman 70.3 Thailand I had my eyes on Ironman 70.3 Barcelona. As I wrote earlier, Ironman Geelong and Florida were races I was trying just to have fun, but Barcelona was different. With a solid block of over 4 weeks of training planned in Girona I was really hoping to go fast here, and I had all sorts of expectations in my mind in terms of time and ranking.
